This is the message they included in their program:
We are both very glad you are able to share with us this very important and special occasion in our lives. In every person's life come three major choices: ETERNAL DESTINY, LIFE-WORK, and LIFE-PARTNER.
Each of these decisions answers a major question:
• With whom shall I share eternity?
• With whom shall I share my message and purpose for living?
• With whom shall I share my heart?
Today you are witnessing the answer to the last question for us, but the most far-reaching and important question is concerning eternity. The Lord Jesus Christ is the One who told us about heaven and that He died on the Cross of Calvary and shed His blood.
Thus He paid the complete penalty for the sins of the whole world, making a way to heaven for all who put their trust in His Finished Work.
Jesus is the One who said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (Jn. 14:6) Every person must make the decision for their own salvation (“Ye must be born again.” Jn. 3:3)
Both of us have trusted Christ's payment as sufficient for our sins and we know we have eternal life (I Jn. 5:13). It is our hope you also will share with us a common eternal destiny — eternal life in heaven with our Wonderful Lord Jesus Christ.
The second of these important decisions, life-work, is before us, and January 30th we are going back to New Tribes Institute, R.D. #3, Box 54, Jersey Shore, Pa. 17740, to complete the “boot camp” segment of our foreign missionary training.
On the back was this poem:
WHAT IS MARRIAGE?
It is sharing and caring,
Giving and forgiving
Loving and being loved,
Walking hand in hand
Talking heart to heart,
Seeing through each other's eyes,
Laughing together, weeping together,
Praying together—
And always trusting and believing and thanking God for each other.
—Helen Steiner Rice
In that missionary training, their path crossed with another couple that became part of my family.
