What do you consider when applying for a job? Dennis Bakke recommends that you look beyond the 401K, payroll and other benefits, and see if the employees are happycan they make decisions; do they smile?
Think beyond pay and benefits as you shop for a job: "Bakke, a Harvard MBA graduate, proposes that the primary reason employees are unhappy is that they are not given the ability to make decisions about what they do in their work placethey give up control about much of their lives as soon as they show up for the job.
"He suggests that employers should be less involved in managing people and more involved in actually being leaders.
"The hard part in making this a viable approach is not with the employees; it is with management letting go of their control, according to Bakke."
