We rightly mourn and recognize this behavior as wrong.
We also note how close they were to half the nation having no problem with this kind of behavior.
If the daughter had not yet been born, and was still in the womb, if the girl's heart had been stopped and later removed dead from her mother, this would be called a late-term abortion. Some bury this truth in euphemisms, and some have taken to celebrating their “reproductive choice,” the supposed rights of women to be as free as men, and some even shout their abortion.
This is the reverse reaction we should have to such things. The murder of a child in the womb is as tragic and wrong as a child losing her life at the hands of her father in the woods. Every almost-born boy and girl has a hair color, skin color, fingers, fingernails and every other attribute we find adorable in little babies.
That people feel pushed to commit such evil is not in doubt. That we should push harder against those forces is why we have laws. President Trump, standing on the legacy of those who came before him, pushed hard against those evils. President-elect Biden is poised to undo much of this work early in his administration.
We've seen this oscillation between good and evil before. In the latter days of the kingdom of Israel, there were kings that tore down the high places and kings that rebuilt them. More striking there is these were members of the same family. Nothing makes the rebuilding of high places and the sacrificing of children acceptable. The Scripture is clear and we would do well to heed it today:
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“Again, you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Whoever of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell in Israel, who gives any of his descendants to Molech, he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. I will set My face against that man, and will cut him off from his people, because he has given some of his descendants to Molech, to defile My sanctuary and profane My holy name.“‘And if the people of the land should in any way hide their eyes from the man, when he gives some of his descendants to Molech, and they do not kill him, then I will set My face against that man and against his family; and I will cut him off from his people, and all who prostitute themselves with him to commit harlotry with Molech.’”
Read that carefully and you'll see there's a call to each of us in there not to “in any way hide our eyes” from those would take or give up the life of precious children. One way to do this is to support laws and enforcement of laws against those who would commit murderous evils against boys and girls of every color in the womb.
